Interview with Colin Fisher(Givardo)Today I've had a honor of interviewing Givardo, one of people whose work inspired me a lot for many months now since this amazing artist was discovered by me! Here are some questions you should probably ask yourself as well. Givardo's answers helped me a lot, hopefully they'll help you as much!
1. When did you start drawing, and did the family support you as an artist when you were just starting out? Back when you were starting out, did you trace and copy a lot? Do you believe it helped you?
I started drawing when I was 10 years old, so that was 8 years ago. I was kind of bored and just decided to draw that day, I actually hated drawing before that. Haha. I used to dread it.
My parents honestly didn't think to much of it at the time. They thought I was pretty good at it, but they didn't expect me to continue, let alone want a career out of it.
I did trace and copy. A LOT. And I mean a lot. An

Update: January 13Hey, guys! Hopefully you've had a great New Year! With the new year comes new changes, new people, new responsibilities. But most importantly - New Year is just a next gear for your ever growing artistic experiences. You compare your art with the previous year and what do you see? An improvement! This kind of spirit is very common in deviantART. We are the community which supports each other to make art. Without the social networks like this, we would probably quickly give up on creating art. From May 2010, this group had become just another way to get your art noticed.
:iconerniethemighty:ErnieTheMighty here. I am a video game developer, with hopes of becoming a concept artist one day. I am the newest co-founder of Daily-Art group. Having already fixed the permission and submission issues, I'd like to ask everyone of you to send me a note with any submission issues you may have with this group, now or in the nearest future.
Also, if you have any possible ideas for the contests, s
Group UpdateHey guys, it's your founder here. I know the group's gallery was a mess, a whole bunch of random folders were made and for some reason certain ones weren't automatically accepting deviations. I think I fixed it? Let me know if you notice a folder I missed or if your deviation needs a vote to be accepted.
Also, the two Co-Founders are apparently gone, so direct any notes and questions to me, either here or at my personal account at dragonofthesand
Happy New Year's guys, hope you all are doing well and had a great time. After I come back from Europe, I think I'll host a contest. If you guys have a particular theme in mind, let me know.
As you all know, Daily-Art is a large group, featuring the works of many different artists. Usually, it's fairly easy to manage, but with such a massive influx of deviations, folders get filled up quickly, and I'm not always readily available to make new ones when needed. The groups Co-Founder has many groups to manage already, so I'm looking for a new Co-Founder and more Contributors, especially since I'll be travelling out of the country in January next year. I need to know that while I'm gone, this group will be left in very capable hands.
So, if there are any volunteers, please note me personally ( dragonofthesand ) and we can discuss your new possible status
Contest Update + New FolderHey everyone~!
Just wanted to let you know that the contest will be a go, I just have to narrow it down to one theme. I have a few (fantasy, fairy tale, sci-fi stuff) ideas, but what would you guys like to do? There was a contest about love done not to long ago, perhaps another emotion that's the opposite? Or it could be something completely different and new, it's up to you guys
Also, I've created a new folder specifically for stamps, which is open to you guys I'm going to go through and move as many stamps as I can to that folder when I have some more free time, but for now feel free to submit all your stamps (both animated and not) to that folder :3
New Founder/Contest?Well, its official. Xeilo has been removed from his spot as founder of this group, and I am now the groups new founder. I don't plan on stepping down anytime soon
Anyways, who would be interested in another contest? And who would be willing to help donate prizes if we hold one?
Feature Folder - Rules - Active members?Hello everyone~
As some of you have already noticed, I opened up the Featured folder for you members to submit your best work too~! In doing so, I hope to expose a few of our lesser known, but talented members and get them the appreciation they deserve~ However, there are a few rules to this.
Make sure what your submitting is your BEST WORK. Don't submit something to the featured folder if it's not done or otherwise lacking in quality.
Only one submission per week.
No traced/stolen pictures. You will be reported for art theft and your art removed from the group.
Any and all forms of art are accepted (photography, fanart, digital, etc). However, if you submit a base, be aware it will most likely be declined unless it looks extremely well done. It can't look like you spent 1 minute in MS Paint blind folded on it.
If you already have a picture in the group, but would like it in the Featured folder, either note me, or remo

That's how you get pageviewsAnd here you have the number one question that people ask me:
"How the hell did you get so many people to view your art? You're not even that good!"
I can't do anything other than honestly admitting that I'm not that good at art. I'm not some awesomely skilled concept artist, at least. I've seen many people do a better job while receiving a lot less of attention.
Why a medium like DeviantArt works for me? Probably because I've been around on the internet for so long, and I've spend so much time working for internet-marketing company's, that things like advertising and web usability have become a second nature to me. A lot of the things that I've come to regard as common sense in internet communication, are things that are nowadays proven successful by research.
It's important to know that websites like DeviantArt are listed in the category social media. That probably didn't occur to most people, since DeviantArt seems to be so heavily focused towards art (and tradi
How to get feedback on dAWe all joined this site, more or less for this reason, to get feedback on our art. The whole point of submitting art online is for people to see it and hear what they think about it.
Now there are a lot of deviants out there who get little to no feedback and as a result ask the people who faved their art to comment or go to random people on dA and ask for them to look at their art or comment in the hopes that the person will be kind enough to return the favor.
A message to the people who do that, you're doing it all wrong.
Sure, if you ask 20 people who faved your drawing what they thought about it, you might get 1 or 2 answers, but in return, you'll be ignored by say 10 people and you'll annoy 8 people. I get these comments and i'm telling you, begging for feedback is not the way to go, if someone didn't comment when they fave, what makes you think forcing their hand is the right way to go?
A fav is a compliment, take it a it is. Not everyone has

PE: How to Make Pixel CloudsHow to Make Pixel Clouds
In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to make pixel clouds. I have two different types of clouds I use depending on the piece; semi-realistic, and cartoon style. I will be showing you both today!
Let us start!
The semi realistic style can be done two ways, depending on if you are limiting colors or not.
First, I'm going to show you the way for if you do not care how many colors you use.
First you will pull out your pencil brush, as you would normally do when making pixel art, and set the color to white. After that, set the opacity to around 10%-20%.
Randomly brush side to side with the pencil, and then overlap some lines randomly as well.
Keep doing that until the cloud if about as big as you need it; it should look something like this.c:

Kiriban at 1.000.000 - CaughtIt's as simple as it gets;
Catch my 1.000.000th pageview and get a free head-shot sketch from your character (or any character that you like).
(Screenshot needs to be fullscreen and send to me by private message)
The kiriban is caught.
Anyone bother to explain me how it is possible that 2 people caught the exact same thing on screenshot???
After hearing from multiple people having experience with more than 1 guy catching their kiriban, I can only come to the conclusion that it's reasonable.
DA's counter is probably flawed, in the sense that it only counts an IP once. Which would lead people that spend hours refreshing my page, being able to keep track of the pageviews without actually influencing themselves. It's still kind of weird to think that kind of thing actually happens and people are

Olympia: Manet's Biggest ScandalÉdouard Manet (1832-1883), a French painter who is sometimes considered one of the founders of the style of impressionism, caused quite a few scandals throughout his career.
Many of these scandals came into being because of the subject matter which he chose to portray in his paintings. Additionally, there were many critics who found fault in his painting style. Surprisingly, despite the sometimes violent reactions to his works, what Manet was really seeking throughout his painting career was official recognition as a great artist of his time.
At a young age, Manet found in his father an extreme opposition to his desired career as an artist. His father was a magistrate who thought that Manet should choose a “recognized” profession. Attempting to appease his father, Manet tried and fai
